Big Ed Edwards
Big Ed Edwards had been a fixture in sports broadcasting for over 40 years, ten of them in the New York area when, in 1987, he moved to Florida as general manager for Sarasota’s WWZZ-AM. Over the next almost twenty years he worked with Venice's WAMR-AM and WCTQ-FM (1989), and served as GM for Bradenton’s WKLV-AM and WSGX-AM (1990), and Sarasota AM’s WQSA (1993) WSPB (1995), and WTMY (1996).
During this time, he was also an announcer for baseball's Chicago White Sox (1990-1997) and Cincinnati Red (1998-2004), and the NBA's New Jersey Nets.
Ed joined Bradenton’s WWPR AM-1490 as corporate director of operations for station owner Vidify Media in 2006, and then became general manager (along with doing news and sports) for AM-1590 WRXB in St. Pete Beach in 2011. After seven years there, he returned to WWPR in 2018 in the 9 to 11 a.m. on-air slot.
