Larry Vance

Before moving to Florida, Larry (Swikard) had already been at KXOL Ft. Worth, KONO San Antonio, and Dallas stations KBOX and Gordon McLendon’s KLIF. He arrived in Tampa Bay in early 1964, shortly after Kennedy’s assassination, to program and do mornings at WALT. After his time was up there, he returned to Texas for awhile and then joined WYSL, another McLendon station in Buffalo.

After going back to Texas a second time, he spent many years with Houston’s KNUZ, first doing afternoons and PD work, and later as general manager. After that, he became group manager for eight South Texas stations.

At the time of his death in October 2005, Larry was managing a group of six stations in Nebraska owned by Tracy Broadcasting.
