Vicki Santa
Vicki began her work at Tampa community radio station WMNF in the late 1980’s as a volunteer, chairing the decorating committee for the station’s legendary Tropical Heatwave concert. She took vacation time from her job to spearhead on-air fundraisers and quickly earned the nickname “Marathon Queen.”
In 1998, she took on the job of development director and became the driving force behind the construction of the station’s new 13,000 square-foot home on Martin Luther King Boulevard. For her dedication and leadership, she was elevated to station manager in 2000.
Due to declining health, Santa stepped down from managing the day-to-day operations of WMNF in June 2008. After battling cancer for almost a year, she passed away the following December 9th of pulmonary embolism and pneumonia at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. She was 56.
In addition to managing the station, Vicki co-hosted WMNF’s “Freak Show" on Tuesday nights with Ed Greene, and was active in the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, the Grassroots Radio Coalition, and Pacifica Radio.
