Dick Norman
Controversial radio talk-show host Dick Norman (Dick Nutting) joined Tampa’s WFLA in 1986 after being canned from WKIS in Orlando as its afternoon talk show host and operations manager.
He was program director at WFLA as well as its mid-morning talk show host. But in early 1988, he was relieved of his PD duties and eventually fired (or quit, depending on whom you ask). In either case, he left the station for a short stint with another talker, Cincinnati’s WCKY, but returned to WFLA to pull afternoon drive.
Norman was killed in Tampa on January 26, 1989 when his car careened backward through an intersection and crashed into a gas station's propane tank. He was 46. During his more than 20 years as a journalist, he was awarded two Emmys and an Overseas Press Club award.
