Jim Thurman, Jr.

Jim grew up in St. Petersburg and, as a ninth grader in 1970, formed JET Enterprises, a small agency to book area bands for school dances and parties.  It was the same year he met deejay Billy Shannon (Bill Morejon) of "The Boss of the Bay" WCWR, who invited him to sit in on a few of his shows at the station.

So inspired by what he heard and saw, he joined WTCP-FM, the campus radio station at Principia College near St. Louis, as a deejay and went on to become its station manager. In 1974, he landed a summer job with St. Pete Beach’s Z16 WILZ, working with the legendary Scott Owens, Christopher Wayne (GM Mel Tinney), Uncle Frank Scott (George Gainey), David Allison, and Dave Wright. In keeping with the station’s beach theme, he adopted the air name "Jim Redington," and, on occasion, was also known as "Jimmy the Jet."

Jim credits his short time in Tampa Bay radio with helping to lead him to a career in advertising as a partner in a Newport Beach, CA ad agency.  In 1997, he and his family returned to St. Petersburg where he devotes his full time to the healing practice of Christian Science.
