Brad Moore

Brad grew up listening to Ohio radio before coming to Florida from Lakewood, a suburb of Cleveland, after graduating high school. He got into radio about five years later, taking his first job, albeit part-time, with Zephyrhills’ WPAS-AM 1400 in 1976. During his almost two years with the station, he had the chance to experience what it was like getting his day started off early when he was promoted to morning after sign-on guy Bob Neil left for WFLA. It was good training for his second job when GM Tom Thornburg hired him for the early morning shift at WIPC in Lake Wales.
 
He began the 80’s back in Tampa Bay where he started part-time with Clearwater’s WTAN-AM, then automated, and its sister FM Supermix 96 WOKF, although those calls would shortly change to WCKX before he left. Later that same year, he moved to the Tampa side of the bay to fill evenings on Joy 101 WJYW-FM. In 1982, he was heard afternoons on St. Pete’s AM-680 WLFW/WLFF. The next year he moved over to WWBA-FM to do overnights, and had worked his way up to production director when Cox purchased the station and changed staff and format.
 
In 1988, Brad began a four-year hitch with station owner Carl Marcocci, first at his WGUL combo in Port Richey, doing overnights and weekends, and later for his Port Charlotte-Punta Gorda stations WQLM-FM/WCCF-AM. In 1992, while pulling a short stint as an overnight jazz show host on WEEJ-FM in Charlotte Harbor, he was offered a job at a new downtown Sarasota FM, soft A/C WISP (licensed to Holmes Beach). He did afternoons and evenings until 1998 when it was acquired by new owners who moved the studios to St. Petersburg and flipped it to Wild 98.7 WLLD.

He became the last one on the air while it was still WISP before the big format change. At the appropriate time to make the programming switch, the consultants came into the studio and asked him to “step aside” (sound familiar?). They changed the format by playing “Wild Thing” over and over for days. All he did was answer the phones for a month or so, and then he was cut loose.

That may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for Brad because, after this, he decided that maybe it was a good time to change careers. Today (2009) he can be found at Manatee Technical Institute in Bradenton where he works as a computer tech.
