Carson Cooper

Carson was a high school senior when he met his first microphone in 1976 at WATO, the radio station next door to his home back in Oak Ridge, TN. Since his early days in the business in nearby Knoxville, he’s been an air talent, production director, operations manager, and news director, and has even done some sales and light engineering.

In 2000, WUSF appointed him local host for National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.” He also hosted “Florida Matters,” a locally-produced public-affairs program that airs on the University of South Florida’s WUSF-TV Channel 16.

After moving to Tampa Bay, Carson worked with Sarasota's WSRZ 102.5 FM beginning in 1981, Clearwater's Classic Rock 97.9 WKRL in the late 1980’s, was news director and co-host of WHPT-FM/Sarasota’s morning show, and served as copywriter for the entire Clear Channel five-station Tampa Bay cluster.

Cooper passed away July 28, 2018 at the age of 58.
