Dianne Hughes

Dianne moved to St. Petersburg when she was about six and went on to graduate from Gibbs High School in 1968. She attended what was then St. Petersburg Junior College, trying to fulfill her dreams of becoming a nurse and, when that didn’t happen, worked for various companies on assembly lines before a lucky break introduced her to radio.

In 1993, the Rev. James G. Davis hosted a gospel program on St. Pete Beach’s WRXB. Being blind, he couldn't do the job alone, and needed help answering phones and doing other tasks for his show. One day he thought of Dianne, the lady who phoned in almost every morning, and asked her if she would be interested in helping him. He offered to train her on the use of station equipment and, now and then, let her make announcements on the air. Three years later when Davis left the station, management needed someone to fill his shoes and Dianne was offered the job.

Today (2009) she continues to do her morning gospel show on WRXB and is heard weekdays from 6 to 10am.
