Annie Sommers

Annie (Mari Ann Sollom) was a former program director and midday host for St. Pete’s classic hits 107.3 The Bay WBBY-FM from 1999 to 2004. After a brief stopover at Soft Rock 94.1 WMEZ in Pensacola in 2005, she jumped to Clear Channel-Sarasota’s 92.1 Lite FM WLTQ to do afternoon drive and serve as its PD. One of her signature shows was the widely popular “Sunday Acoustic Brunch.”

Her career started out in 1976 in Minnesota with KQRS-FM/Minneapolis where she was assistant program director. Three years later, she moved to Duluth as music director for KQDS-FM. From there, it was to Atlanta (1981 to 1989) and WFOX-FM, Power 99 WAPW, WSB-AM, and 94Q WQXI-FM.

In 1989, Annie moved to Florida and began work in the Orlando area, putting in time with classic rock Q96 WHTQ as afternoon host and interim PD (1989-91), Cool 105.9 WOCL (1991-92), WCFB-FM (1992-97) and WMMO-FM as music director, assistant program director, and midday host (1997-99). After that, she moved to Tampa Bay to continue her career.

It was while working at WLTQ that she discovered she had ovarian cancer. After fighting the disease long and hard, she passed away July 26, 2009 at the age of 54.
