Tommy Chuck

Tommy is from Erwin, TN, born into a family in the radio business. His father and uncle had both worked at WEMB, the hometown radio station, since they were in high school. At the age of 15, he officially got a job there himself and worked part-time through high school graduation.

As soon as the cap and gown were off, he packed his car and moved to Knoxville  to attend The University of Tennessee and host the night show on WTXM-FM. Within 18 months, he was hosting afternoon drive and promoted to assistant program director. In August 2000, came an offer to PD WVSR-FM in Charleston, WV. At the age of 19, it was simply an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Tommy had been in Charleston only four months when Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) came knockin’ in early 2001 and he was hired as program director and afternoon host on WKXJ-FM in Chattanooga. Three years later he was promoted to PD and afternoon host at WQEN-FM in Birmingham, AL. It was during his time there that he began picking up additional responsibilities with sister stations in the cluster and assisting PDs in other markets.

In March 2006, iHeartMedia promoted him again and he was off to Orlando as PD of WXXL-FM. That turned out to be another short stop. In early 2007, he was called to PD their Tampa Bay stations, CHR 93.3 WFLZ and Hot AC Mix 100.7 WMTX, before being called to Washington/Baltimore in 2015 as PD of DC’s CHR Hot 99.5 WITH and Country 93.1 WPOC/Baltimore. He gave up WPOC in 2016 and added those duties at AC 97.1 WASH-FM in Washington.

iHeartMedia promoted Tommy to Senior Vice President of Programming for its Tampa and Sarasota markets in late 2017. In addition to overseeing programming in both markets, he serves as program director of Country US 103.5 WFUS.
