Russell Gant
When he joined WUSF-FM 89.7 in 1983, Russell was studying music at the University of South Florida. He started at the station as a part time production assistant and became a full-time staff member in 1987.
Today (2009), he is not only WUSF’s morning classical show host, but also classical music director, succeeding 30-year station veteran Mary Diana who left in 2004 after holding down the position for 20 years.
With more than 72,000 music selections in WUSF’s library, it’s Russell’s job to ensure that the music mix includes not only the great works and conductors, but performances of emerging artists as well. With the help of volunteers and a student assistant, his goal is to provide an acceptable balance of music that he hopes makes most of the listeners happy most of the time.
