Joseph S. Field, Jr.
For three decades, Field owned (or co-owned) radio stations in Florida. He founded West Palm Beach’s WIRK AM-FM combo in 1947 and 1965 respectively, and WIRK-TV on UHF Ch. 21 – the third television station in Florida – in 1953. By the early 70’s he was a partner in FM Enterprises, Inc., the company that owned Clearwater’s beautiful music Stereo 98 WQXM.
During his lengthy broadcasting career, he served two terms as president of the Florida Association of Broadcasters, and was a board member of the National Association of Broadcasters. He was also active with local and state advertising federations.
Field was 78 years of age when he passed away in 1994.
