George Laurie

George joined Radio 62 WSUN in 1969 from WRAN in Dover, NJ, and worked on the air as George Conrad, host of overnight’s "The Midnight Sun." At that time, WSUN was no longer operating from the Million Dollar Pier, but rather from studios in a large yellow, one-story building on 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue North.

His First Class Radio License was, most likely, a help in his landing the job. Back then, the transmitter site people left at midnight and operations after that hour were controlled by remote – hence, the requirement for someone with a First ticket. Longtime listeners may recall that one of the overnight sponsors of “The Midnight Sun” was an area restaurant called Aunt Hattie's.

In addition to his work at WSUN, George also moonlighted at St. Petersburg's 99.5 FM WTCX in 1969 and 1970, using the on-air moniker 'Bobby Flyer'. He returned to New Jersey in 1973 and passed away there in 2014.
