WAYP - A History
WAYP-FM 98.7 Holmes Beach – Call letters for three kilowatt WAYP, licensed to Holmes Beach, were assigned in late 1989. Although the original owner had conducted test broadcasts from its tower/transmitter site off Cortez Road in Bradenton, the station was silent when purchased by a Naples firm, Alpalm Broadcasting (David and Norman Alpert), in 1992 for $1.8 million.
Alpalm changed the calls to WISP, instituted a soft adult contemporary music format, and moved studios into the Ellis Building on Main Street in Sarasota.
