George Lowe

Although Florida native George Lowe was born in Dunedin, he spent some of his growing-up years in Hernando County. In the early 70’s, at the age of 15, he landed his first radio job at Brooksville’s WWJB. By the late 70’s and early 80’s, he was attending the University of South Florida and working at its campus TV station as an anchorman for “Weekend,” a student-produced program. He went on to make another foray in front of the camera as a host of the St. Petersburg edition of "PM Magazine" on WTOG-TV Channel 44.
Greatly influenced by disc jockey and voice actor Gary Owens (“Laugh-In”), he went on to work for Ted Turner’s TBS cable network in Atlanta through the late 80’s and early 90’s doing voiceover work. He is perhaps best known for his 10-year role as the voice of the lead character in the animated TV series “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” which ran on the Cartoon Network from 1994-2004 and, now, is in re-runs.
Today (2010), George makes is home in Lakeland (FL) doing radio/TV imaging and other voice work from his home studio. He’s also been a frequent guest on WTVT Channel 13’s late evening “NewsEdge at 11” lightning round segment.
