WKZM - A History

WKZM-FM 105.5 Sarasota – WKZM is a non-commercial educational FM licensed to Sarasota that originally went on the air in 1974 on 105.5 mHz. It aired a religious education and public affairs format and was owned by Christian Fellowship Mission, Inc. After the three-kilowatt FM moved to 104.3 mHz and increased power to six kilowatts in the mid 90’s, an assignment of license was filed with the FCC in 1999, transferring ownership to the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago for $1.5 million.

Today (2015), WKZM operates with a power of 25 kW and simulcasts programs of Christian teaching, talk, and music from Lakeland’s 91.1 WKES, the flagship station statewide for the Moody Radio for the Heart of Florida network. WKZM’s tower site is in south Sarasota on McIntosh Road, south of Ashton Road.
