Ron & Ron
 |
Ron & Ron (Ron Diaz and Ron Bennington), Tampa Bay radio’s original bad boys, were heard on 95ynf and AM-620 WSUN from 1986 to 1997. Their show constantly posted high ratings, and was made available via syndication to other stations and markets throughout the Southeast.
In 1997, the duo split up, ending their eleven-year association. Diaz moved to Tampa Bay’s Thunder 103.5 WTBT where he held down mornings until leaving in 2004 to join former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ian Beckles for The Ron & Ian Show on The Sports Animal 620 WDAE. After the split with Diaz, Bennington enlisted Fez Whatley, one of the original Ron & Ron supporting cast members, to join him for The Ron & Fez Show on New York’s WNEW-FM. Eventually, the pair left terrestrial radio in 2005 and made their debut on XM Satellite Radio.
Ron & Fez continued on Sirius-XM until Whatley announced his retirement from radio in 2015. After that, Bennington hosted the afternoon show solo.
Meanwhile Diaz, who came to Tampa Bay in 1979 and rose to APD/MD there before teaming with Bennington, announced his retirement from WDAE in December 2020.
