WAVV - A History

WAVV-FM 100.7 Tampa – Rounsaville Radio’s WDAE-FM dropped its contemporary format and became WAVV (Waves of beautiful music…) in 1976. Studios were at 101 N. Tampa Street in downtown Tampa along with sister station WDAE-AM. About this time, station power was increased from 32,000 watts to 100 kilowatts.

In 1978, the WAVV calls became WJYW (JoY 101) but the station kept its beautiful music format.

Other names in WAVV’s short history include John Lotz (GM-1976), Thom Sanders (PD-1976), Downey Hewey (sales manager-1977), and Dick Ergenbright (operations-1977).
