Bob Tracy
Bob Tracy (Robert V. Taraski) joined WLCY as PD and morning man in 1976 from WRIE in Erie, PA. The following year, he resigned and moved to Memphis’ WMPS, Plough Broadcasting’s flagship station, also to do mornings. However, that gig turned out to be a brief stop.
He picked up the nickname “The Polish Cowboy” after joining Chicago’s powerhouse country outlet WMAQ-AM in 1977, and was later heard nationally via the Mokena-based Satellite Music Network in the early 80’s.
In 1988, when WMAQ dropped its music format and ABC Radio effectively ended the Satellite Music Network, Tracy did some fill-in work as an announcer for WLS-TV in the Windy City and hosted a coast-to-coast "Overnight Truckers Show" for the Interstate Radio Network, based in the Tribune Tower. He remained there until exiting broadcasting altogether in 1997, then moved into the real estate business.
After a six-month fight with lung cancer, Bob passed away June 3, 2014 at the age of 66.
