Jim Johnson (WQXM)
Jim was sales manager at Tampa’s WQYK AM & FM in the mid 70’s and went on to become vice-president and general manager for Plough’s Stereo 98 WQXM in Clearwater. It was while under his watch in 1978 that WQXM adopted the now-legendary 98 Rock moniker and switched from easy listening to an album-oriented rock music format.
A few years later, he stepped away from Plough and opened up two broadcast outlets of his own – Williston’s WJRQ-FM 101.3 in 1983 and Wildwood’s WWLB-AM 1170 in 1986.
Jim is now deceased.
