WEZX - A History

WEZX-FM 104.7 Tampa – In 1972, Tecnico Leasing, Inc. (Frederick T.C. Brewer, president) changed its WPKM-FM format from popular/light classical to beautiful music WEZX. Studios were located in Tampa’s Bayshore Royal Hotel.

In December of the following year, Southern Broadcasting (John G. Johnson, president) acquired the station and flipped it to WRBQ (Q105), Tampa Bay’s first rock station to broadcast in stereo.

Other names in WEZX history include Robert Auslander (chief engineer 1972-73).
