Robert R. Nelson

Robert was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey but raised in Philadelphia. After service during WWII in the Army Air Corps, attending Kent State, and beginning a career in radio, he and his wife and family moved to Bradenton in 1957.

He was a broadcasting pioneer in West Central Florida, founding Bradenton radio stations WBRD-AM (1957) and WDUV-FM (1973), and Sarasota’s first television station, ABC network affiliate Channel 40 WXLT-TV (1971).

Robert R. Nelson passed away at home on May 9, 2012 at the age of 87.
