WWKY - A History

WWKY-AM 1450 Sarasota – Wilks-Schwartz Broadcasting acquired Sarasota’s WSPB in early 1988 and flipped the calls to WWKY. The 1-kilowatt (day, 250-night) CBS affiliate programmed an adult standards format from Transtar Radio Networks from studios at the transmitter site at 1751 City Island Road in Sarasota.

The WWKY calls last about a year before reverting back to WSPB during the second half of 1989.

Names in WWKY history include Hank Kesterbaum (GM/president of Wilks-Schwartz-1988) and Tom Evans (PD-1989).
