Ron Parker

Ron grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Briarcliff High School. He also attended the University of Georgia, majoring in advertising, communications, and meteorology.

His radio experience includes Top 40 WDOL AM & FM in Athens where he was Program Director from 1971 to 1973. While a college student in Atlanta he worked part-time as an announcer and did gained experience in Music Research and Promotions at WQXI AM & FM and then WZGC Z-93 FM where did pulled an air shift and worked in Promotions.

Following college in 1975, Ron moved to Tampa Bay and spent the next six years there, first at the legendary WLCY for four years, doing afternoons on the air and serving as the station’s Assistant Program Director and Music Director, and then two years at Dance CHR WCKX FM 96 Kicks where he held a similar position.

Between 1981 and 1988 he sat in the Program Director’s chairs at WGLF-FM in Tallahassee, KKBQ AM & FM in Houston (first as Assistant Program Director and then Program Director) and KKFR Power 92 in Phoenix. He returned to KKBQ briefly in 1990 and 1991 as Music Programmer Coordinator and afternoons on the air.

Ron joined the ABC Radio Networks in Dallas in 1991 as Program Director for an Adult Contemporary Oldies-based format where his job included Marketing, Promotion and Programming for 175 affiliates. He returned to local radio in 1993 and about eight years at KFRC AM & FM in San Francisco working on the air and assisting with Programming. In 2001 Ron was named Program Director and morning show host at KLDE in Houston and also host of the nationally syndicated shows, “New Gold” and “Goodtime Oldies Magazine.”

He has picked up his share of awards over the years, too, including being named one of the Top 5 Best Air Personalities by Electronic Media Magazine in November 1983, nominated Program Director of the Year by Billboard in 1987, and named one of the 10 Best Program Directors in the nation by Inside Radio in January 1990.

On January 19th, 2017, Ron debuted as the afternoon host on Cumulus’ Classic Hits WLS-FM in Chicago. He had previously been on the air at co-owned NASH FM 94.7 WNSH-FM in New York City and hosted two different day parts there on WCBS-FM. He was also on-air for various SiriusXM channels.
