Robert Ottinger

Robert Ottinger, known as Long John Kay when he worked from noon to 4 P.M. at WQPD in the early 1970’s, ran his high school’s in-house radio station when he was a senior in his hometown of Norristown, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Grantham School of Electronics in 1965, he went on to work at various stations in and around Philadelphia, WFIL, WNAR, and WIFI.

In 1968, he moved to Florida and eventually to stations in Ft. Lauderdale, Sarasota, Daytona Beach, and Tallahassee. In New Port Richey, he worked at WGUL under the name Bob Allyn, hosting the afternoon talk show, Open Line, and at WCWR in Dunedin, where he used the name Johnnie Dark.

Due to personal problems, Robert quit radio and, in 1991, passed away at the age of 47.
