Angelo Fazzari

Angelo was originally from Niagara Falls, New York. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the RCA School of Electronics and then joined the Army, assigned to the Signal Corps as an instructor at Drew Field in Tampa before putting in time in Okinawa during World War II.
After the war, he returned to Tampa, got married, and became chief engineer for WEBK, a small Tampa AM radio station with studios in Ybor City. In 1954, a friend talked him into moving to Winter Haven, where he opened up his own business, Acme TV Sales and Service.
Four years later, Angelo selected a site on Dundee Road and built his own radio station, WINT, the city’s second AM. Former Winter Haven mayor and Polk County commissioner Bruce Parker came in as a business partner in 1960 and, together, the two put WINT-FM, Polk County’s first stereo FM, on the air in 1963.
Due to health reasons, he decided to get out of the broadcasting business in 1964 and sold both stations. Parker bought out his interest in the FM, while the AM was sold to outside interests. After the deals were sealed, he turned his attention to investing in various other area businesses, mainly restaurants, and real estate.
On January 12, 2012, Angelo passed away at the age of 93.
