Bruce Weaver

Bruce grew up with radio, listening as a young lad late at night to the R&B music played by John R and the others out of WLAC in Nashville. With the arrival of the British Invasion in the mid 1960’s, he avidly sought out Top 40 radio, spending many evenings trying to pick up distant signals like WLS in Chicago and WOWO in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

In 1968 Bruce and his family moved to Lakeland where he began listening to the local Top 40 signals from WONN, WGTO and later, WQPD. Following graduation from Kathleen High School in 1970 he went on to Tampa Tech where he was actively involved with the campus closed-circuit radio station, WTTI. Bruce joined the staff of WVFM in 1973 working weekends, evenings and holiday shifts and left in 1974 to pursue his BA, returning every chance he had over holiday breaks to do fill-in work.

After working at stations in Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, and Louisiana, Bruce left radio in 1982 to accept a regional position with Canon, USA in the copier division. Although no longer with Canon, today he pursues many interests including photography, geology, writing, and music. In 2001 Bruce cut a CD (entitled Resonance) of some of his original piano compositions. Even though he is no longer in radio, he continues his enthusiasm for the medium by collecting radio station jingles and Top 40 music surveys, many from the very same stations he listened to as a youngster.

Today (2005) Bruce resides in Greensboro, North Carolina.
