Bob Hoffer
Before moving to the Suncoast and joining St. Pete’s WTSP in January of 1951, Bob worked with WBOC in Salisbury, Maryland and WMAJ in State College, Pennsylvania. In 1957 he crossed the bay to Tampa’s WDAE where his show followed the afternoon CBS soap opera block from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. He was the area’s #1 deejay in those days prior to WLCY and WALT and their Top 40 formats.
While with WTSP, Bob was one of two Tampa Bay deejays to sit down one-on-one with Elvis Presley for an interview when “The King” toured the state in 1956. The other was Ed Ripley who would later join WDAE in the mid 60’s. Bob’s interview was recorded first - on August 7th in St. Petersburg - and Ed has his moment two days later in Daytona Beach.
At the time of his death in the 1970’s, Bob was general manager of WJNO in West Palm Beach.
