Jim Sebesta

Originally from Pontiac, Michigan, Jim moved to Florida in 1959 and, while his may not be a household name in the world of Polk County radio, he did have a short career here during the early 1960’s before moving into the political arena.

In 1962 Jim was brought in as Sales Manager of WIPC in Lake Wales. About a year later he moved up to the post of General Manager and had also become a partner in the operation. Jim worked on the air, too, mostly doing the midday news.

Jim sold his interest in WIPC in 1965 and moved into the realm of politics, beginning with a successful bid for a seat on the Lake Wales City Commission. In 1970 he succeeded Jim Fair and spent four years as Hillsborough County’s Supervisor of Elections. Over the last several decades he has served on many boards, councils, commissions and election campaigns, and was elected to the Florida Senate in 1998 and 2002.

Today (2006) Jim and his wife, Jean, make their home in St. Petersburg.
