Frankie Grover
Although many remember Frankie from his “Dr. Jive” days as one of Lakeland’s premiere club deejays, his radio career began when he was in the 11th grade doing overnights at a station in Albany, Georgia.
After moving to Polk County and working as operations manager for Lakeland’s WWAB, he formed GB Enterprises in 1995 and bought his own station – Cypress Gardens’ big bands/standards outlet WHNR which, at that time, had been off the air for several months. Believing that there was a need for a full-time urban station that played good, positive music, he flipped WHNR to an urban contemporary format as Lucky 13 The Soul of Central Florida, and served as its general manager and morning show host.
In 2006, Grover decided to get out of the business, citing personal health issues and a lack of community support for the station, and sold WHNR. He turned up as GM and morning show host for WFHT in Avon Park in late 2015.
