George Allen
In 1990, George Allen and business partner Steve Samet (Florida Community Radio, Inc.) bought Cypress Gardens’ WYXY AM-1360 from Seehafer Broadcasting (Don Seehafer, president) and changed the station to adult standards/nostalgia WHNR (Winter HaveN Radio). Studios, offices, and transmitter site remained on Dundee Road, east of downtown Winter Haven.
Eventually, Samet sold his interest to Allen. In 1995, WHNR was bought by GB Enterprises (Frankie Grover) who switched it to an urban format.
