The Dean of Tampa Bay Sports Radio, sports/talk personality Steve Duemig, was raised in Philadelphia, PA where he became an avid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, Eagles, and 76ers. After college, he worked as a professional golfer, even qualifying for the PGA tour. To be able to focus year-round on his golfing career, he returned to Florida and opened a golf shop and driving range.
In 1991, Duemig joined Sportsradio 910 WFNS and WDAE in 1996 where he did a daily afternoon drive local sports talk show. He also handled two years of color analysis for Tampa Bay Lightning hockey games (including their 1996 playoff season), hosted a weekly call-in sports show on Fox Sports Radio, and co-hosted a program on The Golf Channel.
In February 2017, terrible news hit the Tampa Bay sports world when the Pensacola, FL native made it public that he had inoperable brain cancer. ‘The Big Dog’ (as he was known), passed away on May 16, 2019 at the age of 64.
