Bill Burnett
Bill got his start in Polk County in the 1970’s doing news at Lakeland’s WQPD and WVFM, and Cypress Gardens’ WGTO. In 1980 he moved to Tampa Bay, signing first with WDAE, then WSUN and WFLA, plus a year in television at Channel 44, WTOG-TV.
In addition to working at stations in the Miami area, he was News Bureau Chief for Westwood One’s Metro Traffic Networks there (and in Tampa Bay) and a part-time deputy sheriff with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
In March 2005, Bill made law enforcement his primary profession and became a full-time road deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Today (2014) he is retired from the agency and works part time at Newsradio 970 WFLA.
