Bill Floyd
Bill worked as a deejay for Tampa’s daytime country station WYOU from 1964 to 1972. During his eight years there he was a program director, music director, did some sales, and coordinated many of the country music shows booked by the station.
Born in Willacoochee, Georgia, Bill moved to the Bradenton area with his parents when he was about ten years old. Eventually he got into deejay work, became a country music performer and recording artist, and recorded several albums and numerous singles in Nashville. In the late 60’s and early 70’s he also hosted a syndicated TV show.
Over the years Bill enjoyed a strong local following, not only for his air work on WYOU, but also for his in-person performances at Joyland, a country music nightspot in Pinellas County on U.S. 19. When his touring days ended in the mid 1980’s, he went to work as a circulation division manager for the Tampa Tribune.
Today (2007) Bill still records and performs in front of live audiences from time to time for private parties and various local groups, clubs, and organizations.
