Jacki West
This country girl, whose real name is Moira Jackson Hasbrouck, grew up in Indiana and began her broadcast career while a student at Florida State University. In addition to radio experience gained in Tallahassee at local stations WTNT and WOMA, she also acquired a background in TV as a copywriter for the local CBS-TV affiliate, WCTV Channel 6.
After graduating with honors in mass communications and advertising in 1974, Jacki moved back to Winter Haven to be close to her parents and took a job as sports director for WIPC-AM in Lake Wales. Then came her big break – landing the mid-afternoon slot at 50,000 watt country giant WGTO.
During her eight years at the Cypress Gardens station, Jacki racked up a number of major accomplishments. In 1981 she was the only female among a field of eight across the country nominated for the CMA’s Disc Jockey of the Year award in the small market category. In addition, she worked her way up from deejay and public service director to the position of program director at WGTO. Most listeners would have also been surprised to know that she and another deejay there, Dave Campbell, were husband and wife in real life.
Jacki remained with WGTO until just before Hubbard Broadcasting sold it in 1986. For awhile she continued to work in radio. Following a stint on the air at another Winter Haven station, WYXY-AM 1360, she left the business to pursue a career in health care, starting with Winter Haven Hospital in 1988.
Today (2007) Jacki (or Moira, as she goes by these days), is Director of Business Development for IPC, the nation’s leading private practice hospitalist company. Prior to joining IPC, she was Manager of Medical Affairs at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
