WATL - A History
WATL - FM 100.7 Tampa - Rounsaville Radio's Tampa contemporary music station WDAE-FM flipped its call letters to WATL for a two-year period beginning in 1966, then returned to its former call sign, WDAE-FM, in 1968.
We're told the reason for the change in the first place was so that company president Robert Rounsaville could hold onto the WATL call letters for later use at one of his ATLanta stations.
From 1968 to 1976, after eight years again as WDAE-FM, the station flipped to a new music format and became WAVV ("..with Waves of Beautiful Music").
