Jon Grayson
Jon was born in Buffalo, New York, and moved to Florida with his family when he was ten. He got interested in talk radio while still in his teens when it got to the point he could no longer listen to the same music all the time. To solve the dilemma, he switched his car radio from 95ynf to News/Talk 970 WFLA – a highly unlikely solution for most young people his age.
After running sound for a local band for a couple years, Jon landed his first job in the business in 1988 as a talk show producer at Pinellas Park’s WTKN-AM 570. The next year he moved to WFLA to produce talker Jay Marvin’s show and, in 1997, to Nashville to host his own show.
Since 2000, Jon has been with St. Louis’ heritage station, News/Talk 1120 KMOX. For a long time his dream was to do a broadcast from war-torn Iraq – to report back home on the effects of battle on American soldiers. In the spring of 2006, he got the green light from KMOX management to make the trip. During the 10-day stint, he made live reports back to the states three or four times a day.
An accomplished guitarist (he started playing at the age of five), Jon and a friend formed an acoustic rock group in 2003, The Amazing Colossal Band, which made its debut as an opening act for former Monkee, Peter Tork. More recently he plays with a band called The Purple of Distance.
