Burt & Kurt
Burt (Bob Burton) and Kurt (Kilpatrick) have been on-air partners since 1974, first in Jackson, Mississippi. Back then, Burt was doing a morning show on WJDX and Kurt was doing TV news and working on his law degree. Burt asked Kurt to join him on the show as co-host and to bring along his many character voices, and the duo became an overnight sensation. Since then, they have worked together at stations in Houston, Birmingham, and Tampa Bay’s WLCY (1979 to 1981).
Burt began his radio career in Virginia after a stint with the U.S. Navy Band. He has been a program director in a number of markets including Charlotte, Birmingham, Jackson, MS, and Tampa Bay. In the 1980’s he enrolled in Samford University and went on to serve fifteen years as a church pastor in the Birmingham area.
Not only does Kurt uses his character voices to entertain and make people laugh on the radio show, but off the air, too, as an award-winning after dinner motivational speaker. He has a law degree from the Jackson School of Law at Mississippi College and a BS in communications-journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, and has served as a city councilman.
Unlike many shows that rely on off-color humor to attract listeners, Burt and Kurt ran a family-friendly show and enjoyed good, clean fun on the air.
