John Meder
John was born on a farm in Montrose, Michigan, one of eight children – three girls and five boys – and got his start in broadcasting in 1959 in St. Johns, Michigan. Moving to St. Petersburg in 1966, he landed a job at WSUN-AM/TV right after the city sold them to Hy Levinson of WCAR Detroit and was there when the studios were moved from the Million Dollar Pier (which was going to be demolished) to 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue downtown.
During his lengthy career, John has been a national sales rep, station manager and co-owner (WRKT-AM/WKPE-FM Cocoa Beach 1968-70), and worked on the air at WMYQ (1971), Miami’s first rock FM. Other Florida stops include WPOM-AM, WIRK AM & FM in West Palm Beach, and WSTU-AM/WHLG-FM in Stuart, FL, as well as stations in Las Vegas, Detroit, and Philadelphia.
He’s a past president of the Sebring Chamber of Commerce and Humane Society and has served on many other local boards of community service including the Friends of Highlands Hammock State Park. Today (2008) John works mornings for the Cohan Radio Group’s country FM, OJ 99.1 WWOJ in Sebring.
