Steve Huntington
Steve was a program director for Ted Rogers’ progressive rock WQSR-FM Quad 102½ in Sarasota in the station’s hey-day back in the 1970’s. He has also been PD of Winter Park/Orlando’s Smooth Jazz 103.1 WLOQ-FM.
Many years ago, Steve became friends with singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett during a rivalry softball game between his local radio station’s team and the team from Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band. After a number of years passed, he got a phone call one day in 1997 from Buffett asking him if he would help him build up “Radio Margaritaville” which, at the time, was only streaming on the internet. It took about a year but the deal was sealed in the summer of 1998.
Today (2008), “Radio Margaritaville” is heard over Sirius Satellite Radio channel 31 as well as the internet and Steve is its program director. He also deejays an afternoon show there weekdays from 1-7pm.
