Rich spent his early childhood growing up in the rural town of Avon on Cleveland’s west side. At the age of sixteen he moved to Clearwater, FL with his family and, three years later, graduated from Clearwater High School.
He received two congressional appointments to the Naval Academy in Annapolis. However, he decided to pass on the opportunity and instead enrolled at the University of Florida to study his real passion – broadcasting. It was there he picked up experience working at WRUF AM & FM, the university’s radio stations, and earned a bachelor's degree in broadcasting and Red Barber Award for broadcasting excellence. He later attended Mississippi State and graduated from its Department of Geoscience’s Broadcast Meteorology Program.
In addition to having been a deejay at over a dozen radio stations around the country (including LA’s KNX, KCBS-FM, KODJ, K-EARTH 101), Fields spent almost a decade in Tampa Bay with U92 WYUU, Coast 107.3 WCOF, Jo 101.5 WFJO, Oldies 97.1 WSUN, Warm 94.9 WWRM and Oldies 104.7 WRBQ, and was the announcer for the Florida lottery's “Flamingo Fortune” TV game show taped at Orlando’s Universal Studios. From there, he became the chief meteorologist at KPSP/Palm Springs, CA, and KCBS-TV/Los Angeles.
In 2004, he was handpicked by Bob Barker to succeed the late Rod Roddy as the new announcer on TV’s longest-running game show, “The Price Is Right.” Additionally, he holds the record for announcing the most network-televised game shows in a single season (7 different shows total). Career wise, he has lent his voice to “The Price is Right,” “Wheel of Fortune,” “Family Feud,” “Press Your Luck,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “Card Sharks,” “Match Game,” and “Beat the Clock” and, in 2009, was awarded “Best Announcer of the Year” by the Game Show Hall of Fame.
In October 2017, Tampa Bay’s Beasley Broadcast Group announced that Rich had been named the new afternoon drive host on Q105 WRBQ.
