Alan Winfield

Alan grew up in New Jersey and was hooked on meteorology by the time he was six. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology from Penn State University, a Master’s from the University of Oklahoma, and the Seal of Approval of the American Meteorological Society.

His career began at an NBC television affiliate in Oklahoma, the heart of severe weather country. From there, he moved on to Richmond, VA and Seattle before finally settling in Tampa Bay in 1997 as Time-Warner Cable’s (now Bright House Networks’) chief meteorologist for Bay News 9. Two years later he published “Lord of the Skies” (Winehouse Publishing), a book that looks at how seven simple principles that govern the weather also apply to the kind of life a person can have if it’s centered on Christ.

In the spring of 2006 Alan left Bay News 9 to take a position with North Dunedin Baptist Church, but continues to be available when needed for the cable channel’s tropical storm and hurricane coverage. Today (2009) he also provides daily weather information on “New Day Florida,” the morning show on Tampa Bay religious station 91.1 FM WKES.
