Art Ross

Art began his Tampa Bay radio work in sales with WFLA in the early 70’s and worked his way up to national sales manager. Originally, he was a child actor from New York City and appeared on various shows including CBS’ "Let’s Pretend" in the early 1930’s.  After four years in the Army beginning in 1942, he returned to New York and worked as an emcee, an actor in live radio, and eventually a morning deejay.

His radio experience included stations in Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia before moving to Florida in 1955 and work with Ocala’s WTMC and WKOS, and Ft. Lauderdale’s WWIL and WFTL. After developing an interest in the sales end of the business, he joined the Florida Radio Network as a salesman, and then WMBR/Jacksonville as sales manager.

Art retired in 1979. The former Tampa Ad Federation president opened Tampa Video Station, one of the first video rental stores in the city, in 1979 and ran it until 1987. Two years later, in June 1989, he passed away, just four days after his 66th birthday.
