Robert T. Rowland

Robert T. “Bobby” Rowland was originally from Brunswick, Georgia. In the late 1960s and most of the 1970’s, radio listeners in the Jacksonville (FL) area knew him for his announcing, sales and management of WQIK, a country station owned by his brother, Marshall.

His career also included work in Tampa Bay as GM of sister station WQYK in 1976 and 1977. After the station was sold, he formed Rowland Stereo Radio, Inc., and in 1979, launched WAVW, a new country outlet licensed to Vero Beach. In the 80’s, he put together Roper Broadcasting and acquired Sebring’s WITS-AM and WCAC-FM and, in the 90’s, added Cocoa Beach’s 102.7 WHKR-FM.

Bobby passed away January 19, 2012 at the age of 77 in Melbourne (FL) where he resided. He was a 32nd degree Mason and an avid and experienced yachtsman and outdoorsman, who involved himself in various civic organizations, like the Jaycees and Toys for Tots.
