Larry received his BA in Communications from the University of South Florida in 1972. During his years there, he got early training in broadcasting as the newscaster on WUSF radio’s “Underground Railroad” show.
After graduation, the fourth generation Floridian spent five years as a cinematographer and general assignment reporter at WFLA-TV before moving to WTVT to do feature reporting for its highly regarded "Project 13" documentary and public affairs series. He also produced the station’s Emmy™ winning “Down Home Florida” vignettes and became a regular contributor to CBS News’ “Nightwatch.”
Larry began independent production work in 1992 for the Disney Company, Tampa and Miami PBS stations WEDU and WPBT, “CBS Sunday Morning,” and others. For ten years, he was senior producer-writer for more than 200 half-hour episodes of the nationally syndicated “Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures,” produced by Tampa’s Spectrum Productions. Then in 2005, he founded Panther Media LLC, which provides media consulting and project management, as well as web and corporate videos and documentaries.
In 2008, the Tampa-born veteran writer-producer-broadcaster was awarded another Emmy™ for his one-hour PBS documentary "The Florida Dream," produced for the Florida Humanities Council and WEDU, and narrated by Ed Asner. He’s also teamed with WUSF-TV to produce and report a signature look at the Sunshine State and contributes stories about Florida to the station’s weekly series “Florida Matters.”
