Downey Hewey

Downey was originally from Galesburg, Illinois. His early career included work in radio and television in his home state as production director and chief announcer at WIBV Radio in Belleville (late 1940s) and sales manager of Central Illinois’ first TV station, WTVP-TV in Decatur (1953).

In the 1960’s, he was back in radio as program director at WSOY in Decatur before moving to Florida, where he would spend some time in Jacksonville at WPDQ (1968-1971), a short-lived stay as GM with Lakeland’s WQPD (1971), and a couple years in Tampa as station manager for WQYK AM-FM (1971-1973).

Today (2013), Hewey is retired and lives in Milton, Florida.
