Ken Copper

The radio bug hit Ken when he was a kid and could pick up great stations like WLS, WABC, WBZ, KDKA and WHB on his little transistor radio during those long winters on the Great Plains. Once he got the opportunity to make his dreams a reality, he began his radio career out in his native Midwest at small town stations in Spencer, Iowa and Vermillion, South Dakota.

After an interlude with the U.S. Army, he resumed his career in Winter Haven at WSIR in 1973 with the station’s new owner, Randy Jeffery, and a host of other top talent on the staff in those days – Bob Stephenson, Steve Day, and Craig Harper. In 1975 Ken left WSIR for WDAE in Tampa where he did mornings for a year, then was hired in 1976 for afternoons at KOGO in San Diego. He left San Diego in 1980 for K-101 in San Francisco followed by KTAC in Seattle/Tacoma and, in 1983, became owner and GM of KKLZ in Las Vegas. He and his partners sold the station in 1986 and Ken returned to San Diego to do afternoons at KCBQ AM/FM for six years, mornings at KBZT-FM for seven, and afternoons at KPOP for five years.

Over the years Ken has been fortunate to work with some radio greats like Chuck Browning, Shotgun Tom Kelly, Tom Kennington, Bobby Ocean, and Clark Race. Today (2005) he does freelance voiceover work.
