Mel Phillips

Mel was a Tampa Bay deejay in the mid 1960’s, first for WFLA and then WALT, and has also been at stations in Nashville and Norfolk. Some of his most notable work includes programming New York’s WOR-FM/WXLO and WNBC, Boston’s WRKO AM/FM, and KQV Pittsburgh.

In addition to serving as General Manager of Hooper Radio, Mel achieved marketing success in syndicated radio for United Stations, Premiere, and ABC. He’s also been in the music promotions industry as a developer of talent, the likes of which include Gloria Estefan, George Michael, and Julio Iglesias, among others. For several years he headed special programming for WCBS-FM New York where he interviewed some of the biggest recording acts in the music business for numerous specials he wrote and produced.

Today (2007), Mel continues to call the Big Apple his home and lives on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
