Joe Gratz

Joe Gratz was a New York City native and Harvard University graduate who began his radio career as an apprentice in the sound effects department at CBS Radio. He was later put in charge of popular music programs at the network. After serving in the Army during World War II, he became an assistant director for  CBS Television.

In 1965, Gratz moved to Tampa and took over as station manager for country station WYOU-AM 1550. He later owned and operated WELE-AM in Ormond Beach and WELE-FM in DeLand.

Gratz passed away in 1992 at the age of 76 while on vacation in Hamburg, Germany.
