Spencer Danes

In 1969 Spencer was hired to manage Winter Haven’s WXKL (97.5 FM) after it was bought by Recreation Broadcasting. Although he had been with WGBS in Miami since 1961, he lasted at WXKL about a year before leaving in 1970 to become GM at Cypress Gardens’ WGTO. A few years later, he got out of local radio and headed for Washington, D.C. where he was a news editor for the Voice of America from 1975 to 1999. He also covered the space program at Cape Canaveral in the 1960’s and Miami Dolphins home football games.

Spencer passed away from cancer in June 1999.
